Your publication is now a brand. Crafting your brand’s unique voice is crucial. Voice is how you frame your videos, the font you use for subtitles, your shooting style, etc. The more specific the better. You want to be memorable, engaging, informative, and a little humor always helps. What you don’t want to do is take your existing intellectual property (articles, newsletters, etc) and generate stock images with text over them and call it content. You need to develop a relationship and rapport with your audience and that starts with how you present yourself. You want viewers to know a video is yours without even seeing your handle. Think about some of the things you are already producing that your readers connect with. Are you an authority on a specific topic or sector? What do you offer that’s different from other publications? Are you located in an area that’s particularly interesting to people outside the region? All of these can help inform your specific voice.

All good videos have a format that is both easily recognizable and digestible for viewers: A hook, insights, elevations, human connection, and a conclusion. We will break down each element so you can perfect the structure of videos for each platform. A full overview how to edit video in FinalCut Pro, one of the film industry’s standard editing software. We will also go over in-app editing on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts. Each app has its own editing interface, but learning the basics in FinalCut first will give you a solid foundation for each platform. Each platform has its own unique language, engagement and algorithm. You need to tailor your content to each platform. The exact same video that does well on YouTube doesn’t always do well on Instagram because their users are expecting different forms of content. This is one of the most important steps, not only to get your content in front of users, but how and when you post a video can make or break a video's initial success. Likewise, videos titles, thumbnails and hashtags are all important tools to use so your video is reaching your specific audience. We will also establish a consistent posting schedule, which will help your audience know when they can expect new content from you. This also lets the algorithm of each platform know that you are active and will start to push your content out to more people.

The ultimate goal is to establish your platform as an authority on your specific expertise and scale your content to an audience outside your current demographic. As long as you are consistently providing insights and engaging visuals, your videos should appeal to a wider audience. Even if topics originate from local stories, they should have enough appeal to engage anyone on the platform. Think about local news stories that get picked up nationally. Viral is a relative term. If you have 500 followers and one of your videos gets 50k views, congratulations, that’s a viral video. For smaller accounts (followers/subscribers under 10k), anything over 10k views is a success. It is much harder to get 10k views on 50 videos in a row than it is to get 500k views on one video and then never again. We will determine what “viral” means to you based on your goals and KPIs and devise a strategy for getting there. The overall goal is consistency. Consistently posting videos and consistently getting views and engagement. Once a successful pattern has been established with documented proof that you can engage users, avenues open to sponsorship and branded content. This can come from local vendors who want to showcase their product or brands who see your engagement and want to reach your audience. This is a great way to start generating revenue from your content which can go directly back to your publication and producing more content.
