Learn. Sustain. Thrive.
PubHub is a resource created for ethnic and independent community publishers who want practical support to strengthen their businesses and the vital journalism they provide.
How do I use this new tool? How can video work for my publication? Can AI help my newsroom? Who can I talk to about a business challenge that is specific to community media? We realized that many publishers are navigating these questions on their own, so we decided to create a place where we could share resources, bring in knowledgeable people and learn from one another.
Through live conversations, archived content and practical training, PubHub connects publishers with support on digital tools, video content, AI and other topics that can help strengthen their businesses. We're also working to bring in experts who understand the unique realities of ethnic and independent community media, because sometimes you need to talk to a person who understands the nuance behind the question, not just ask an AI chatbot.
PubHub isn't intended to replace the great work already happening across our industry. It's simply another resource. As we grow, we hope to add more experts, more tools and more opportunities for publishers to learn from each other.
Our goal is simple: help community publishers build stronger businesses so they can continue producing the journalism their communities depend on.

Your publication is now a brand. Crafting your brand’s unique voice is crucial. Voice is how you frame your videos, the font you use for subtitles, your shooting style, etc. The more specific the better. You want to be memorable, engaging, informative, and a little humor always helps. What you don’t want to do is take your existing intellectual property (articles, newsletters, etc) and generate stock images with text over them and call it content. You need to develop a relationship and rapport with your audience and that starts with how you present yourself. You want viewers to know a video is yours without even seeing your handle. Think about some of the things you are already producing that your readers connect with. Are you an authority on a specific topic or sector? What do you offer that’s different from other publications? Are you located in an area that’s particularly interesting to people outside the region? All of these can help inform your specific voice.

All good videos have a format that is both easily recognizable and digestible for viewers: A hook, insights, elevations, human connection, and a conclusion. We will break down each element so you can perfect the structure of videos for each platform. Within the first second of seeing your content, viewers need to know if it’s interesting and want to keep watching.
Who runs it
The Institute exists to keep community and independent publishers in business — and in control of their own future. PubHub is where that support lives day to day: practical, tested, and built with publishers rather than at them. Sessions are taught in partnership with Demystify AI.
